The SEQTA Story
Founded by teachers Grant and Sharon Grosser in 2006, SEQTA has grown from a humble kitchen table start-up into a multi-award winning software company with clients throughout Australia and South East Asia.
SEQTA’s vision has always been to improve the lives of teachers because of the critical role they play in shaping the lives of children and adolescents. Unfortunately, increasing administration workloads takes teachers’ time and energy away from planning and delivering great learning experiences, and can leave them feeling that they’re never on top of their workloads.
So what does this have to do with software? As a deputy principal responsible for a staff of around 100 in the early 2000’s, Grant saw first-hand that poorly designed software foisted on teachers was majorly contributing to stress and fatigue. He believed teachers deserved a user-friendly, all-in-one software package that genuinely saved time so they could concentrate on what really matters: the students in their classrooms.
So Grant and Sharon resigned from their jobs, mortgaged their house, and set about building a software company. In 2008 they were fortunate to meet angel investor John Vickers, now Executive Chairman. Together, they became SEQTA’s founding strategic team.
The early years focused on creating a minimum viable product and testing it in the market. A rocky start and software failure was overcome through sheer hard work and commitment to the vision. SEQTA young guns George Hewitt, Barry van Oudtshoorn, and Lance Duivenbode worked days, nights and weekends with Grant to provide pioneering schools Esperance Anglican Community School, Carey Baptist College and Mater Dei College with working beta versions of the software. It was through these early days that the SEQTA culture of commitment to both clients and colleagues was forged.
Today SEQTA provides more than 455 schools, 30,000 teachers and 245,000 students with instant online access to everything they need to effectively play their role in the school’s learning community.
At SEQTA, our decisions and actions are underpinned by a set of values.
